IVAN NEVILLE'S DUMPSTAPHUNK | WEBSITE
Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk is a group of musicologists that transcend age and styles in a free-flowing approach to their art. Dumpstaphunk weaves a vocal and musical tapestry from key members of Dave Matthews & Friends, Trey Anastaio, Jewel and the Neville musical families. The band's music incorporates drops of Sly and the Family Stone and Meter-esque jams as well as other diverse influences into a spicy musical gumbo.
Ivan Neville began absorbing the musical attitude of the Neville family from birth. Ivan's music honors and extends the Neville's musical heritage, adding a distinctive new gift that radiates from his New Orleans roots.
Ivan first joined the Neville Brothers in his mid-teens, then moved on to become a pivotal member of Keith Richards & The X-Pensive Winos, The Spin Doctors, and Bonnie Raitt's band. His extensive credits include recording and/or performing with The Rolling Stones, Robbie Robertson, Angie Stone, Jack Cassady, and Gov't Mule. Ivan is currently performing with The Neville Brothers in a worldwide tour in support of the album he co-produced, Walking In The Shadow of Life. He has also recently performed with Soulive, Widewpread Panic, Trey Anastasio, Galactic, North Mississippi Allstars, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Bob Wier's Ratdog, Funky Meters, Dave Matthews Band and John Mayer.
Ivan is also the featured keyboardist in the Martin Scorese produced music film/DVD "Lightnin' In A Bottle," and he recently performed as house keyboardist in the Willie Nelson TV Special "Outlaws & Angels" on the USA Network.
Ian Neville, Art's son, is an emerging 'next generation' guitar wizard who grew up 'with both feet on stage' and has regularly performed with The Funky Meters and The Neville Brothers. When you add the Neville legacy of Ivan and Ian to Nick Daniels (Neville Brothers Etta James, Bos Scaggs, Wild Magnolias) on bass; Tony Hall (Dave Matthews & Friends, Trey Anastasio, Jewel, Emmylou Harris) on bass and guitar (yes, there are two bass players); and Raymond Weber (Dirty Dozen, Trey Anastasio, Harry Connick, Jr, and featured as original drummer in the movie "RAY') on drums, you have Dumpstaphunk.
Dumpstaphunk's brand of New Orleans deep fried funk has them heralded as the most hypnotic and riveting band to come out of New Orleans in many decades. Dumphstaphunk performed on the main stage at the New New Orleans Jazz Fest in 2005 and have headlined New Orleans venues such as Tipitinas, and the Howlin' Wolf. The band won the 2005 Big Easy Award as New Orleans' "Best Funk Group".
"Ivan Neville is the funkiest collection of human gumbo ever assembled on the planet." -Bonnie Raitt
